Lighting design has a utilitarian role: to put enough light on the stage so that the audience can see the actors. But the lighting also helps shape the performance by providing the color and overtones that add meaning and layers and depth. The same mix of art and technology, craft and discipline exists in user interface design.
Whitney Quesenbery
is a principal of Whitney Interactive Design. As an interface designer and information architect, she has worked on projects from hospital management software to e-marketing web sites. She is the manager of the STC Usability SIG and a member of the board of directors for the Usability Professionals’ Association.
