Every so often we get stuck. It happens to everyone. Maybe you want to start your own business, and can’t figure out how to get started. Maybe you are working with a new medium like iOS, and can’t figure out how to express a certain metaphor. Maybe you are thwarted by your organization, and want to shape how business is done. But no matter the problem, you don’t know how to solve it, and you need help.
Almost ten years ago, there was a conference at Asilomar with no talking heads. Just people with problem who shared them with other smart people who helping them get unstuck. Now it’s time to do it again.
The format
Format matters. We have all sat through many conference full of big brains sharing big ideas, wondering how we can use this when we get home. The Reinventing conference is an unconfence; a two day working session. No napping, no surfing Facebook. No podcasts, no transcribing in twitter…. You’ll be way too busy.
Everyone who speaks will have 15 minutes to provide a full background on their problem. We will break out for 30, then reconvene and share our ideas.
We are considering three organizing themes/tracks for Reinventing:
- New Mediums: are you designing a smart stove? A sleep monitor? An android game? Bring your problems, work on solutions
- New Roles: becoming an entrap rear, a product manager, an exec? Come share the challenges of a designer designing organizations.
- New Processes: been practicing IA/IxD/UX and feel like you are stuck, sick of wireframes, site maps and flows?
