I am a Senior Information Architect in the Southeast Michigan area with 8 years of experience in the field of information architecture/usability. I am looking into going out on my own as a freelance IA. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what the going freelance rate is in Southeast Michigan (Metro Detroit Area)?

IAI does regular salary surveys. You might poke around on their site to see if there is something for you.
Salary rates for freelancers vary really widely based on geography and experience; I’ve seen low as 50 hr and as high as 200 (that’s rare). In the silicon valley it tends to be 100-175.
